Description
A classic baked dessert featuring juicy strawberries in a sweet, jam-like reduction and a halal-friendly, buttery oat topping. Perfectly balanced textures and flavors for a simple yet indulgent summer treat that can be enjoyed warm or cold, with optional ice cream.
Ingredients
5 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and chopped
1/4 cup granulated sugar
3 tablespoons cornstarch
1 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup halal butter, softened
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon non-alcoholic vanilla extract
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C)
In a bowl, toss strawberries with granulated sugar and cornstarch until evenly coated
Arrange strawberry mixture in a 9×13-inch baking dish
Sprinkle rolled oats over the strawberries
In a separate bowl, mix brown sugar and non-alcoholic vanilla extract with softened halal butter (using a fork for a crumbly texture)
Sprinkle the butter mixture over the oats
Bake for 30 minutes until toppings are golden and berries are bubbly
Cool slightly before serving
Notes
For a crisper topping, refrigerate the unbaked dessert for 15 minutes before baking
Serve with a dollop of halal yogurt or coconut milk vanilla frozen dessert instead of regular ice cream
Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days
